Is College Even Necessary Anymore?
In light of the skyrocketing costs of college, the lack of jobs being provided to students after graduation, and other issues, many people feel that a college education is no longer necessary. Some people believe that you can have a great career without receiving a college education. Still, many believe that a college education is valuable in today’s society.
Everybody has their own choices to make when it comes to their career paths. I believe college might not be the best scenario for everybody, and others would do well to receive a college education, while others might want to choose a different path. Still, most people benefit from some type of higher education.
Let’s look at some facts.
First, it is well-researched that people who have a college education receive better-paying jobs than people without a college education. The more education you have, the higher the salary you will receive. A person with a bachelor’s degree living in the United States can expect to earn, on average, $19,000 more each year than somebody with just a high school diploma. If money is a concern for you in your choice of career, then this is one reason you may want to consider going to college.
There will always be exceptions to any rule. There are plenty of people who had the determination, intelligence, and motivation to go after their dreams, and felt that college was only holding them back. Mark Zuckerberg, for example, dropped out of Harvard to start Facebook. This is one example of somebody who does not have a college education, but was able to pursue their career goals.
If you want to skip college and pursue your dreams, whatever they are, you should absolutely go for it. Past experience tells me that most people do not want to pursue this route. If they did, there would be a lot more 20-something-year-old millionaires in the world. For the majority of people, I believe that college is the best option.
Remember that there are many types of universities and colleges. You can go to university and study just about anything. If you are unsure of what you might be interested in, there are community colleges that offer general education classes, so you can learn about many different fields and gain better understanding of what you might be interested in. There are vocational schools, where you can earn a certificate in something specific, whether it is nursing, or accounting, or business administration.
Going to college is important for a number of reasons. First, it provides a formal environment to study academics. It is a great place to learn things you haven’t learned before. You can learn about things that you are passionate about, from people who are experts in the subject. It is an opportunity to go to school with people who are interested in the same things as you.
College is not just about academics. It is about college life, in general. The things you learn outside of the classroom are just as important as the things you learn inside. You learn about different cultures and backgrounds. You form social relationships with people in a way you wouldn’t if you didn’t go to college. It is important to join clubs, go to extracurricular activities, go to parties, and meet new people. All of this is part of the social aspect of college.
Education is one of the great forces on this planet. Education will make a positive impact on yourself, because you will learn things that you can use for the rest of your life. It is great to be enrolled in a program, learning about things that you enjoy. Education also helps to make a positive impact on our communities and the world. As people are educated, it helps to make our economies stronger.
It helps make the world a more peaceful and tolerant place to be. College is important for breaking the cycle of poverty. Those who go to college will be better educated and receive better jobs, which they can use to provide for their families and build stronger communities at home.
Many people will still choose not to attend college, and that is okay. College is just one path that people can take towards their own future. Some people choose a career where college is not necessary. Some people choose to start a family instead of going to college. Others want to go into the military. There are many possible options for your future. Yes, college is a big time commitment and it is a lot of money, but it will also be very rewarding and open up many opportunities for you.
It is important for you to decide for yourself what your future plans are, and if college fits into those plans. Everybody has to decide this for themselves. Whatever you decide, I hope it brings you closer to your goals for yourself.
